It’s been on my heart to try and live more sustainably. My son is passionate about the environment and I am really aware of how much packaging the products we typically buy can involve. I was looking for ways to become more sustainable and reduce waste and Tru Earth had just what I needed. They sent me some samples to try out so I could share them with you all.
When I think about our old routines, it just seems like SO MUCH waste. I have guilt. About laundry. Being 36 is about having guilt about laundry and all the packaging it involves. And my makeup supplies. And our lunch packaging. SO. MUCH. WASTE. Tru Earth had a better way and I was all ears. Here’s what they hooked me up with to reduce waste and suburban laundry-related guilt.
Now I can go back to feeling guilty about other things, like not phoning my mom often enough. (side note: HI MOM THANK YOU FOR BEING A LOYAL BLOG READER I WILL CALL YOU I PROMISE JUST AS SOON AS WE ARE DONE THE LAUNDRY WITH OUR NEW DETERGENT! LOVE YOU!)
Back to saving the earth.
Laundry Routine Clean Up
Tru Earth Laundry Eco-Strips are super cool. I love that they have a fragrance free option because I like to go unscented for some things. I like how easy they are to use because I have a tremor and that can make measuring liquids or powders messy. I want detergent on my clothes, but just the ones I’m laundering, not the ones I’m wearing. That’s why the design is so genius. No mess!
The strips come in a recyclable cardboard container so there are no unwieldy plastic jugs. They are ultra-concentrated and hypoallergenic which is important to me because my skin is very sensitive and allergy-prone. They don’t have parabens, phosphates, added dyes, chlorine bleach or 1,4-dioxane (whatever that is?!?!). They are also Vegan, with no animal-based ingredients or testing on animals. I don’t know why you would want to test laundry detergent on animals, anyways, I mean, they don’t even do laundry (kidding, but really, let’s not use detergent on our animal friends!)
You just toss it in with your clothes and it’s easy peasy. It dissolves without a trace. Because it comes in a smaller package than your usual plastic container, it has a smaller eco-footprint. It’s not as heavy, it’s more compact and that means fewer emissions from vehicles transporting them because fewer are required to transport the same amount of product. The package size also saves room where you store your laundry products and they also actually work! Have a look for more information here.
Once your clothes are fresh and clean, it’s time to dry them. Tru Earth makes wool dryer balls that come in a four pack to make drying a breeze. They are made with 100% sheep wool with no chemicals or synthetics. They shorten the drying time by absorbing moisture and that means you will use less energy doing your laundry. Your energy bill goes down and so does the impact on the earth of your laundry. They last for more than 1000 loads which is super impressive! I didn’t know that dryer sheets could actually damage my dryer. It sings a happy song when it’s done, so I really want to protect it. (Seriously, it’s the most adorable thing, I still smile even three years later!) Dryer balls also keep your clothes from bunching and clumping up so they dry more effectively. Makeup Routine Cleanup
Tru Earth Bamboo Rounds Reusable Makeup Remover Pads come in a reusable cotton laundry bag. I love that they are reusable because I get so sad thinking about all the cotton pads I’ve thrown away over the years, all in the name of looking pretty. They are made of 100% natural bamboo fibers so they won’t irritate your skin or leave residue behind. You can toss the laundry bag full of dirty makeup pads in the wash with the rest of your laundry and they will be fresh and ready to reuse. No need to run to the store to get more makeup remover pads. You can use these over and over. The eco-footprint is smaller because you won’t have to keep replenishing your stock with new products. Check them out here!
Lunch Packing Cleanup
TruEarth Beeswax Food Wrap is an eco friendly, reusable, sustainable, zero waste, plastic free alternative for food storage. I also think the print is pretty cute! Whether you are packing a lunch full of fruits, vegetables, cheese, bread or anything else you would normally wrap in cling wrap, there’s a better way to take it with you without leaving behind a lot of waste. They come in three different sizes so you can pick the one that works best for you.
It’s so easy. You warm up and soften the beeswax wrap with the heat of your hands, wrap it around your food or even turn it into a lid. The beeswax wrap seals around the food or container which keeps your food fresher longer. When you’re done, wash it up with dish soap and let it dry and you’re good to use it all over again! You won’t need scrubbers or pads to clean them up after lunch.
How do they make these magical wraps? They combine cotton fabric, beeswax, tree resin and jojoba oil which are natural, non-toxic and bio degradable. Because they are reusable, you aren’t replenishing cling wrap which has to be transported to the store for you to purchase. Your eco-footprint shrinks again! Have a look for yourself right here.
These three small changes are easy ways to become more sustainable and reduce waste. Being more eco-friendly doesn’t have to be hard. There’s no prize for the most complicated way to save Mother Earth! You can easily clean up your laundry, makeup and lunch packing routine and the planet will thank you! How will you do your part for the environment? Give these options a try and call your mom (or my mom! She’s really cool!)
Disclosure: Product samples were provided so that I could create this blog for you. I only tell you about things I love made by people I adore. I really like Ryan who is a founder of Tru Earth because he’s a really great person and he has a really great product. What kind of friend would I be if I didn’t tell you about it?
