I have a pretty sweet day job, but every Monday morning when I don’t want to get out of bed, I think about freelancing. I think about it a lot. I’m at that age where running away from home involves a colour coded spreadsheet and a five year plan. Adulthood is incredibly overrated, but here we are. I have my reasons for daydreaming of a different life.
Whenever a hot topic pops up on the interwebs, all the bloggers rush to write about it first and best to maximize page views. It occurred to me this is not unlike the mad dash to the cornucopia in the Hunger Games. We rely on the blessings of sponsors to keep our blog adventures going. I wondered how else the two might be related. Also, I really like Jennifer Lawrence and wanted an excuse to write about her. She’s my she-ro. It turns out this wasn’t the only way the two topics intersect.
“You took the words right out of my mouth” is normally a pleasantry between people so familiar that they finish each other’s sentences effortlessly. That familiarity can be comforting and means that all the times you spoke before, you were heard. In the writing world, there is a darker side, and we call it plagiarism.
