I recently connected with Nadya Pecherskaya through Ariana Fotinakis who I also featured on a Fearless Female Friday. I love how connected the local wellness community is and how I get to meet such interesting people. Nadya is coordinating the Health Crawl Vancouver which is happening on April 22. The Health Crawl is a one-day event that connects exceptional local health products and wellness businesses with those who are passionate about living a healthy lifestyle.

Did you always want to be in the wellness industry?

Not really. I always knew I was interested in health, but the environment I grew up in encouraged me to pursue a career in finance. After graduating from university, I realized I need to focus on what I really am passionate about and that’s when I went back to school to study nutrition.

What do you love most about working with clients?

I love being a part of my client’s wellness journey. I love seeing the difference diet makes in a person’s life. I love when they are positively influencing their families, friends and colleagues – it makes me feel like healthy lifestyle is contagious.

What’s your favourite snack food?

Who doesn’t love snacking, right? Most of the time I snack on fruits. I can easily overdo it because fruits do have quite a bit of sugar, so I try to go for mandarins or berries that are smaller in size.

What’s your favourite way to move and get active?

I walk. I walk everywhere. If it takes me less that 40 mins to walk somewhere, I am definitely walking. I’m a big believer in natural movement, so I try to do activities that are purely for fun like hiking, snowboarding or biking.

What’s your advice to someone who wants to start a wellness journey?

Start small. People think that they have to change everything, go on a diet, exhaust themselves at the gym 5 times a week, but that is very extreme, unhealthy and unsustainable. Healthy lifestyle should be the opposite of that. So start small – drink lots of water, slow down with sugar consumption, include more veggies into your diet, get moving throughout the day. Do things that will bring you pleasure and that will nourish and satisfy you – that’s the only way to make healthy sustainable changes.

What are the best and the most challenging parts about being an entrepreneur?

The best part of being an entrepreneur is creativity and freedom. I am free to choose my own path and I always come up with fun new ideas for my business that keep my mind engaged and my days interesting. I love how I can make my own schedule and take time off when I need to.

The most challenging parts of being an entrepreneur are the lack of clear path and being your own boss. As an entrepreneur you are always learning and growing and a lot of times you are not sure exactly where you are going. It’s mentally exhausting to go through the ups and downs of that. Also, as great as it is to choose my own hours, I struggle with keeping a work-life balance. I am my own boss, and you know how they say that “you are your worst critic”? Well you are your worst boss too sometimes. Taking time off, even at night or during the weekend, is very difficult when you know you can be growing your business.

Who is signed up for the Health Crawl so far?

I’m very happy with the vendors and attendees that have signed up so far. We have a variety of brands: food, fitness, wellness products, chiropractors, essential oils, just to name a few. I think the more variety of interesting local wellness brands we get, the more fun our attendees are going to have. We are also very grateful for the support of The Body Energy Club who will be sponsoring the Health Crawl with the shots as well as Blendz coffee who will sponsor us with coffee (what kind of Saturday would it be without a coffee?). The Health Crawl is for everybody who enjoys healthy living and is eager to learn more about local brands.

You can find Nadya on her website, on Instagram, Twitter  and Youtube. If you’re interested in signing up as a vendor you can find more information here.  Tickets are $10 online (at the door, cash only), +$10 for the afterparty for wellness entrepreneurs. Free for EHF Members. Tickets include entrance to all three locations, coffee in the morning, free photos of you and your friends, swag bag (to the first 50 attendees). Afterparty tickets include snacks and drinks later in the afternoon. You can get your tickets here
